As like most custom home builders, i love my job more than is possible

As like most custom home builders, i love my job more than is possible to put into words. I get to design and then build what i design and get the best feeling of satisfaction possible. Some people say I'm in to my job more than I'm in to anything else but i don't really agree with that. I know where my work starts and stops and where my family life starts and stops.

I don't really design houses from scratch i normally just work on house extensions as i find the extension to be the best part as you have to get it just right as to make it not look out of place with the rest of the house. Right down to the bricks that are used, they have to be perfect or it just wont look right. The only bad part about doing my job is the waste that mounts up during the course of the work. I don't end up with nearly as much waste after a job now than i used to purely because i am now more precise when i work and make fewer mistakes.

I remember one of the house extensions i did, i think it was one of the first ones. I couldn't stop making mistakes all the way through from the planning to the build. It would look perfect for a while then I'd find out that the windows were too big. It was a very frustrating time of my life but i stuck with it and it was soon to pay off. The extension was just to extend the kitchen and put in a downstairs toilet but right from day one it was mistake after mistake. The waste was unbelievable. In the end it was a job that should of lasted maybe 3 month and it took me about double that. Luckily it was my own house so it didn't matter too much. As i got better i actually knocked the extension down and rebuilt it all. My house extensions now are a lot better but i do have other people working for me now so that i am not lumbered with all the work.
